Tips for Buying a New Humidor

Here are the key points to consider when shopping for a humidor:

The Size: How big is your collection? 10 cigars? 200 cigars? It’s important to know because too many cigars in too small of a humidor may damage them or make it difficult to acquire the right humidity levels.

The Seal: A proper humidor seal will ensure moisture doesn’t escape. There’s nothing worse than a dry humidor. If you don’t want to have to consistently check humidity levels, then make sure your humidor seal is strong.

The Maintenance: Do you want to have to maintain your cigars? Or do you want a humidor that’s more set-it-and-forget it? With a lower-priced humidor, you’ll probably have to calibrate the hygrometer and humidifier more often.

The Presentation: Humidors can be elegant, they can be plain or straight up out of this world. It really depends on your style. But, no matter the aesthetic, a high-rated humidor will maintain your collection regardless.

The Material: Humidors have a range of different styles and materials. Most tabletop boxes will come in Spanish Cedar, while coolers come in stainless steel. Acrylic humidors are also rising in popularity.

Many popular cigar brands have rich histories dating back to the 19th century. Indeed, a cigar brand’s legacy is often a big part of its identity, which means newer cigar brands might have trouble breaking into an industry based on tradition and heritage. On that note, today, we’re going to highlight a few new and emerging cigar brands that are worth your time in 2024.

Next Article: Best Butane Lighters for Cigars: 2024 Edition

Lighting a premium cigar evenly is crucial to enjoying it. One of the most consistent and reliable ways to light a cigar is with a butane lighter. Butane torch lighters — unlike matches — work in all weather conditions and provide a ton of heat to get your cigar started. Plus, the best butane lighters allow for close control, meaning you can “touch up” uneven burn lines if necessary.

From Alec Bradley to Xikar, here are the best butane lighters to try out in 2024.

After going from Tupper-dors to Colman-dors, I eventually expanded to a dead Sears Kenmore 11.8 cubic foot upright freezer that I nabbed for next to nothing at a Salvation Army outlet store.

Added shelves between the existing shelves. In addition to the cigar boxes, I added sheets of Spanish Cedar to help even out the humidity. (The cedar sheets are probably not that necessary since there are so many cedar boxes.)

Narrow trays holding florist foam with Propylene glycol and distilled water are at the back of every other shelf.

Doesn't have a window, though. Oh, well - I open it often enough that I get to see what's inside.
