Punch is set to debut a new, full-time release that harkens back to the glory days of Corojo cigars. Called “Golden Era,” the new cigar heavily features authentic Corojo tobacco cultivated from the Eiroa farm in Honduras. The cigar is slated to arrive in stores nationwide starting May 1.

Punch Golden Era Blend & Packaging Info

Punch Golden Era is a Honduran Puro, and as mentioned above, Havana-seed Honduran Corojo dominates the blend. Golden Era includes a Honduran Corojo wrapper, a Honduran Corojo binder, and Honduran Corojo with Honduran Habano fillers. The result is a balanced and flavorful, mellow-to-medium-bodied cigar.

John Hakim, brand manager for Punch, said, “The Eiroa family has perfected Corojo tobacco, and we are excited to bring it to life with Punch Golden Era. This tobacco delivers a silky, golden wrapper, a binder with ideal combustibility, and a filler that produces unique spicy notes and a spectrum of nuances. We’re especially pleased to make a true Corojo experience available for cigar lovers to enjoy any time the occasion calls for a rich and rewarding smoke.”

Punch Golden Era will be a full-time addition to the Punch lineup. It is currently available in three frontmarks: a Robusto (5 X 50), Toro (6 X 52), and a Churchill (7 X 48). Golden Era boxes are wooden and feature classic Punch branding; each box contains 20 cigars per box.

Corojo Tobacco

Corojo is a legendary, tobacco first developed in the 1930s and 40s by Diego Rodriguez in Cuba. For the next two decades, Corojo was a mainstay of the cigar industry. Many premium cigars featured Corojo tobacco wrappers, and Corojo cigars were considered to be of the highest quality. However, because of its susceptibility to disease, the Corojo strain proved challenging to grow in large quantities. In fact, Blue Mold nearly eradicated the tobacco entirely.

The Eiroa Farm

Punch Golden Era features a revered strain of Corojo tobacco found only at the Eiroa family farm in Honduras. Unlike hybrid versions of Corojo –– like Corojo ‘99 and Corojo ‘06, the Eiroa family grows only Corojo tobacco from original Cuban Corojo seeds. Because of the delicate nature of Corojo tobacco (and the demand for it), the Eiroas have taken great care to modernize their growing techniques. Indeed, El Corojo (the farm) is the only tobacco farm in the world certified by the Bayer CropScience division.
