Warped Serie Gran Reserva 1988

Smoked: Warped Serie Gran Reserva 1988

Warped Serie Gran Reserva 1988 sports a very interesting band. Off white band with a crown and the numbers “976312” written over the crown – at least those were the numbers on this cigar band. I’m not sure if they have significance or each cigar made is numbered in order. On the other side of the band are the words “Be exclusively different” and the web address. The corojo wrapper is oily brown, smooth as silk with small veins. The seams are almost invisible.

Good draw, decent smoke production, wobbly burn line, and the ash was flaky and fell off twice. None of this affected the enjoyment of the smoke. A few touchups were necessary, but no complete relights or wrapper issues as a result. The burn issues did affect the smoke output at times.

The Gran Reserva 1988 flavors are oak, earthy, coffee, chocolate dominant, but there is a nuanced balance with other notes throughout the smoke. There is a sweet vs. savory balance. The pepper is rather mild. There are hints of maple syrup sweetness, nuts, cream and caramel. Very mild pepper, leather and a briny saltiness make up the aromas of the retrohale.

This Warped ’s a medium body, medium strength cigar to my palate. It does have its moments. It’s a good cigar, just not exceptional. But I did enjoy this smoke very much. If the rating system allowed, I’d give it a 4.5.

That’s strange. I’ve been through several boxes of the grand reserve’s and several boxes of the Eagles descent, I just opened the box of the black honeys, and I do not believe I had a burn nor construction issue with not a single one.

I wonder if I need to leave these sticks in the humidor a little longer.
