Oliva V 135th Anniversary Edicion Limitada

Smoked: Oliva V 135th Anniversary Edicion Limitada

Oliva V 135th Anniversary Edicion Limitada was gifted to me by a friend – a much appreciate gift from a much-appreciated friend. I haven’t smoke a non-Melanio Oliva V in several years so contrasting and comparing with the original V may be difficult. I did smoke a Melanio last month. Whatever I taste is what I’ll put in the review.

The wrapper is dark chocolate brown with a few very tiny veins. The vitola is a perfecto with a tapered foot so it lights effortlessly releasing thick smoke. The only construction flaw was flaky ash that fell off twice.

Oliva V has been around long enough everyone knows the flavor profile. But…let’s see. Cedar, almonds, spice, pepper, coffee, dark chocolate, some floral notes, well aged tobacco with background sweetness in the range of maple and cinnamon. Dark roast coffee increases during the second third. There’s some caramel and anise on a few puffs just to make things interesting.

I can’t say that I tasted any new flavors or changes from the common, everyday Oliva V, but the V (Melanio or non-Melanio or Anniversary) is an excellent cigar. Rack it up on the board – 5 in every category. Is it better than the original Oliva V. Who knows? There’s a richness to the taste that I don’t recall in the original, but again it has been a long while since I smoked a non-Melanio V. If this were a first time smoke of a cigar brand/series I had never before experienced, I’d give it a 5. So be it.
