Looking for advice

Hi all, I'm a new starter to the world of cigars. I have been enjoying the Romeo Y Julieta Tubos 3 and 2 and would like some recommendations on something similar. I'm located in Australia so I might be limited on selection compared to you all, but throw them out there and I'll go hunting. If it helps, I do enjoy Laphroaig whiskey with my cigar.

Thank you all in advance

Phil

Some may disagree, but I'd suggest something that isn't terribly smoke heavy, as it will most likely dampen the peaty smoke flavors of the Laphroaig. Finding that specific cigar that truly compliments your particular palate at a given time, is quite the challenge. I enjoy cigars that bring the drink alive, similar to either enjoying a drink neat or with water/ice; the cigar can open up a drink profile of flavors and vice versa. As far as choosing the cigar, I'd say it depends on your palate.

Some, that drink heavily peated whiskey find more robust (typically darker) cigars more complimentary to the brininess of the Islay. You could try an Ashton VSG, the strength of the Islay will bring out the flavors of the cigar, spice & earthiness, again, that goes both ways. Just a single recommendation but that's part of the game, searching for just the right cigar for you and discovering what you truly enjoy along the way. Happy hunting.

Try as many different ones as you can. You will find your “taste”. Welcome to the cigar family!

Hi Scotty, that would be the ultimate plan but here in Aus tobacco is taxed and tariffed heavily. As an example the cigar suggested above (Ashton VSG Sorcerer) seems to sell for around $13 in the USA. It sells for $52 in Australia. Trying as many as I can is costly here, so it's a blessing to find a site like this that people with experience can guide and suggest to narrow my search a little.
