La Flor Dominicana La Nox

Smoked: La Flor Dominicana La Nox

La Flor Dominicana La Nox features a band with a crescent moon – close enough for a solar eclipse cigar. La Nox sports a dark, oily, toothy Brazilian wrapper with nary a vein to be found. The seams are there maybe hiding some veins.

Cedar, roasted nuts, pepper, a hint of spice, earth, leather, a slight floral and minty flavor, almost a menthol taste along with hay, bread or toast. There is some creaminess, but it’s muted by the mint/menthol taste. During the second third, a few puffs of coffee and chocolate join in to accelerate some sweetness. The balance and complexity are there and nicely nuanced. In my world, this is a bold, rich, full-bodied, full-strength cigar.

The draw is a bit loose, ample smoke production and the burn line is getting it done – nice and even, razor sharp.

A decade ago, I was seriously into LFD Double Ligero chisels and Air Benders. Perhaps my palate has changed or I am just in a different place on my cigar experience adventure. It’s probably more that I don’t have the desire for the strength of those sticks anymore. That said, the La Nox is the best LFD cigar I have smoked since the Andalusian Bull some years back.

BTW: I smoked this on the back patio during a 99.4% total solar eclipse. I wasn’t going to spend 3 hours in traffic to drive 20 miles north or west into the totality zone. Hope everyone enjoyed the eclipse – and the cigar that accompanied your experience. It was awesome here.
