La Flor Dominican Maduro Cabinet No. 5 Limited Edition features a Dominican binder and filler and draped in a very dark oily Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper devoid of seams and barely noticeable veins. Per my friendly neighborhood tobacconist, the LFD Maduro Cabinet No. 5 is a Litto Gomez Limited Edition sold in 50 counts and bandless. I’ll take his word. Mine have a white band and a bar code – for his convenience, I suppose.
General wood note that transitions to a more oaky taste by the second third, pepper, cream, dried fruit, and nutmeg. The wood becomes charred oak by the second third with some herbal and floral notes and a generic sweetness in the background. This is a medium to medium-full bodied cigar, but on the lighter side compared to most LFDs I have smoked.
Fine construction: nice open draw, generous smoke output, spot-on even burn line, and dark grey ash that held firmly to the one-inch mark.
La Flor Dominicana Maduro Cabinet No. 5 is produced in limited quantities. I had never seen nor heard ot it until last month. I doubt I’ll see it again so I’m glad I got to experience it. Not a 5 on the Cigar World Richter Scale, but a solid 4-plus. If you find one, buy it.
