Bolivar Gran Republica

Smoked: Bolivar Gran Republica

Bolivar Gran Republica toro is a multi-nation tobacco collection (are we getting geopolitical with our cigars?) covered in a shiny brown Ecuador Habano wrapper with some visible seams and veins. The binder is Brazilian Arapiraca and the fillers are Brazilian, Nicaraguan and Colombian – quite interesting. The band features a portrait of Simon Bolivar – a tribute to El Presidente of the Grand Republic of Colombia. It’s med-full bodied, medium strength.

Nutty – combination of cashews and hazelnuts, wood, pepper, earth, and some notes of spice and dark chocolate. The flavors work together pretty well though minimal. There are no transitions and very little complexity. What you taste at the start of the smoke is what you get to the nub.

Credit where it’s due: Excellent draw, firm, light grey ash, but a very wavy burn line until midway through when a few touchups evened it out through the remainder of the smoke.

Bolivar Gran Republica is a very average cigar. It never quite hit a sweet spot. Still an fairly enjoyable smoke.
