Cigar World Predicts the Future

Predicting the future may be a fool’s errand, but it is a fun way to talk about things we love — like cigars! So, as we turn the page on 2023, now’s the perfect time to peek inside our crystal ball and make a few bold (and maybe not-so-bold) predictions about cigars and the cigar industry for 2024.

The San Andrés Moment is Far From Over

Over the past few years, cigars with Mexican San Andrés wrappers have made big waves in the cigar industry. These rich, flavorful smokes are hugely popular with consumers, and numerous brands have added San Andrés wrapped cigars to their portfolios. While the cigar industry is susceptible to trends like any other space, we don’t see San Andrés wrappers going anywhere anytime soon.

Another Big Crossover Collaboration is on the Horizon

Every brand loves a good partnership. And that goes double for cigars! Because cigars pair so wonderfully with a wide variety of other products and activities, expect to see the recent trend in big-name partnerships between non-cigar celebrities and cigar brands continue in 2024. Particularly after the success of crossovers like Drew Estate and Metallica and Espinosa and Guy Fieri. We have a sneaking suspicion that a cigar-loving athlete would make a great face for a new cigar brand, but that’s just pure conjecture.

Things Will Only Get Weirder

Want to stand out in the cigar industry? Then you’ve got to be willing to do weird stuff, like releasing unconventional and odd cigars. Take the Diesel Sideshow as an example. Or some of the massive ring-gauge Asylum cigars. Or even the bizarre Drew Estate Egg. Nothing about the last few years suggests cigar brands will pause on innovation anytime soon. What would we like to see catch on in 2024? Candelas! They’re green, they’re still pretty rare, and they taste great.

Get Ready for the Year of the Dragon

Okay, this one is pretty obvious, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that cigar makers will go BIG for the Lunar New Year in February. The “Year of the Dragon” is simply much too cool of an opportunity to miss — so expect to see a ton of exciting, limited-edition dragon-themed cigars hitting the market in a few months.
