Casa Cuevas Mandarria Edition Limitada | #leemack912 (S07 E88)

At the 2019 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, Casa Cuevas Cigars released a new limited edition called La Mandarria, a name that means sledgehammer in Spanish and which was a reference to a break-in that occurred at the company’s Miami warehouse and resulted in the theft of 25,000 cigars.

Originally a limited release of 500 boxes of cigars, the company has announced that it is bringing it back as a regular production cigar with an updated secondary band that bears the La Mandarria logo.

”We were completely overwhelmed by the response for La Mandarria,” said Luis Cuevas Jr., president of Casa Cuevas Cigars, via a press release. “This brand was a smash hit at the 2019 IPCPR and sales have remained strong. We are grateful to the public for accepting the product with open arms.”

While the cigar acknowledges an unfortunate event, Cuevas previously said that it is a testament to the values that his father taught him when he was a child, notably having strength and will. “He was a fighter who optimized the American dream. As a small cigar company, the robbery was an obstacle, but nothing he hasn’t been able to deal with in his storied past,” said Cuevas.

The cigar returns in the same 6 x 52 toro vitola featuring a pigtail cap, while the blend uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and Colombian, Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. It is a full-bodied cigar that sits at the top of the company’s portfolio in terms of body and strength. Production is handled by the company’s factory, Tabacalera Las Lavas S.R.L.

Pricing remains set at $12 per cigar and $240 per box of 20 cigars, before taxes. It is scheduled to begin shipping immediately after the Tobacco Plus Expo (TPE) trade show, which runs from Jan. 29-31.
