The Griffin’s Robusto is the definition of mild bodied, mild strength. I’m not sure I have ever smoked a milder cigar. The filler and binder are Dominican, and it’s covered in a slightly toothy, flimsy, papery cream-colored All-American Connecticut Shade wrapper with plenty of visible veins.
The flavors are minimal – cedar, a hint of cashews, earthy, weak coffee, cream and mild spice. And yet it is balanced without any transitions or complexity.
Construction: good smoke output, wavy burn line, whitish grey ash that held reasonably well, and a draw that’s a little on the loose side for my taste, although acceptable. This is a fast-burning cigar.
I enjoy mild to medium-mild Connecticut shade cigars, especially with morning coffee or single malt scotch. The Griffin’s is, as described earlier, an extremely mild-bodied, mild strength cigar – about as mild as you can get. It’s a good cigar. I enjoyed it and I would smoke it again, but it does lack in flavors beyond cedar, earth, light roast coffee, and mild spice/pepper. Somehow that’s enough to make it a reasonably good experience. I guess I expected a bit more from a Davidoff creation. There are many mild Connecticut Shade cigars I would rate above The Griffin’s.
