Punch Chop Suey

Smoked: Punch Chop Suey

Punch Chop Suey 7 x 37 panatela is made with Nicaraguan & Dominican filler, a Nicaraguan binder and covered with a sandpaper-ish feeling Ecuador Sumatra wrapper with light but obvious seams and veins. The Chinese takeout packaging and cigar band theme are unique and interesting. Wish I could say as much for the cigar.

Oak, earth, hay, pepper, bread, a dash of dried fruit, and some spice. The flavors are minimal and do not balance at all. Zero complexity. Zero transitions. The retrohale is pepper and nuts that’s dry and harsh.

Tight draw, almost no smoke output, poorly rolled, off-kilter burn line almost immediately, and light grey flaky ash that fell off twice.

As much of a Punch fan that I am, this is a nothing cigar. Stunning to me that the same folks who make Rare Corojo and Gran Puros could put their name on a cigar like this. I suppose it could be the panatela is poorly rolled with construction issues lowering the enjoyment level, but I doubt it.

Could not finish the first third. Into the ashtray. Punch Chop Suey is not well made, blended or flavorful. Being a fan of Punch Rare Corojo, Gran Puro, Diablo, and London Club, I am extremely disappointed in this offering. Chop Suey is an awful cigar.
