HVC Hot Cake Laguito

Smoked: HVC Hot Cake Laguito

HVC Hot Cake Laguito is a 4 ½ x 52 shorty that has been getting some attention at lounges and cigar get-togethers recently. Two tobacconists and two friends recommended I try one so…

HVC Hot Cake robusto is built with Nicaraguan fller and binder and covered in a dark brown toothy Mexican San Andres wrapper.

The cigar started out well with flavors of charred wood, pepper, mossy earth, leather, caramel and peanuts with cinnamon, clove, chocolate, and a touch of creamy and orchard fruit sweetness darted in and out in the background. It’s medium bodied, medium strength with reasonable complexity and balance.

Now the bad news. The construction issues destroyed the experience. Tight draw/extreme resistance that did open a bit from the Perfect Draw. but I had a hard time keeping the cigar lit. Several relights and puffing to get the combustion going interfered with tasting the flavors. I had to quit halfway through the stick and left it to burn out in the ashtray.

The HVC Hot Cake Laguito didn’t impress me, but what I could taste was somewhat enjoyable. For having a laundry list of individual flavors I could identify, it never really blossomed into the flavor bomb I imagined it could have been – all due to terrible construction Not sure if I’ll try one again with the hope of better results because the flavors were interesting - when I could taste them.
