Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur Epicure

Smoked: Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur Epicure

Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur Epicure is made in Honduras with Honduran, Nicaraguan and Dominican filler, a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and a blondish brown oily Connecticut Shades wrapper with a few visible veins. The band is gold on yellow with the Hoyo logo and “Excalibur” printed on the bottom.

Flavors: cedar, grassy earth, leather, cashews & walnuts with caramel, cream, cocoa and coffee in the background, but way in the background. Initially, there is very little pepper or any spice for that matter, although it does increase a bit during the second third. This is truly a mild bodied, mild strength cigar.

Nice open draw from the first puff to the last, reasonably even burn line, a bit light on the smoke production, and whitish grey ash that held pretty well. A crack appeared in the wrapper at the beginning of the second third, but repaired itself as the burn line reached beyond the crack. No harm. No foul.

This is one of the mildest cigar I smoked recently. Even the retrohale is light on the pepper with wood, nuts, very mild spice dominant. Although it never developed into anything special, Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur paired just fine with a cup of morning coffee.
