Blackbird Superb

Smoked: Blackbird Superb

Blackbird Superb Toro is made with undisclosed tobacco in its filler and binder (a page out of the Robert Caldwell playbook) and is covered in an Ecuador Habano wrapper with some veins with an oversized seam and a series of small veins and one that might surprise a phlebotomist. The band features the usual blackbird in the corner with the name “Blackbird Cigar Co.” in light silver on blue and a sideways cursive “Superb” written in marine blue on a black background.

Wood, pepper, chocolate, cream, and hay. The wood begins to take on charred taste by the final third. It finishes a bit harsh and bitter at the end of the smoke. It’s a medium-full bodied and medium strength smoke.

Perfect open draw, copious volumes of smoke, somewhat uneven burn line that required a couple of touchups, and whitish grey ash the builds and remains firm until tapped off.

I am impressed with the Blackbird line so far. I wouldn’t describe the Superb as such, but it is a damn fine cigar. My only issue with the Blackbirds in general is a harshness that often develops during the final third.
