Asylum Insanity Later is the evil twin of the Serenity Now, which I reviewed last month. Time to take a walk on the dark side. Serenity Now is described by Christian Eiroa as “smooth and refined.” Insanity Later is described as “aggressive, complex and bold.” These descriptions have been used by women on Tinder…so I’ve been told. The acrylic display case containing alternating Serenity and Insanity sticks is chez cool.
Made in Honduras, Insanity Later features a “proprietary” undisclosed filler and binder covered in a dark chocolate colored, faintly oily, somewhat spolotchy, mottled Mexican San Andres Habano wrapper.
Oak, spice, pepper, dark chocolate, espresso, almonds and hazelnuts, earth, leather, and a touch of floral. And it is dark and bold in flavor right out of the gate. Spicy and sweet are the dominant notes.
The construction is exceptional – perfect draw, light gray ash held firm as if it had Gorilla Glue as adhesive, never fell off, difficult to tap off, had to be gently rolled off. The burn line was relatively even and a hefty amount of smoke poured out.
Asylum Insanity Later is full bodied, full strength bold, robust….I’ve run out of adjectives to describe this stick. I am very impressed with this cigar. The toro is the right vitola – smoked it to the nub. I will be back for more insanity….later.
