Alec Bradley Prensado Lost Art Gran Toro is box-pressed with Nicaraguan and Honduran filler and binder and covered with a smooth, slightly oily, mid-brown colored Honduran Corojo wrapper with nearly invisible seams and veins.
The band is red, black, blue and gold with the Alec Bradley logo centered and lettering “Alec Bradley” at the top and “Prensado” below the logo. The “Lost Art” designation is in white at the bottom of the cigar band.
Cedar and hickory, earth, leather, pepper spice, dark roast coffee, nuts and a sweetness in the nutmeg/molasses and cream range. Nice transitions during the second third with the pepper giving way to more spices – cinnamon pops in with a creaminess and floral notes. No surprise – the pepper is still in command over the wood and earth notes on the retrohale.
Open draw with just the right amount of resistance, an even burn line – no touchups, acceptable smoke volume, ash somewhat flaky yet firm enough to hold on through most of the smoke, fell off once.
The original cigar grabbed a 96 rating in 2011. The Lost Art is a good enjoyable cigar. I can’t find my way to score it a 5, but it’s a solid 4.
Before I ever tried this cigar, friends have commented cautioning me of the super full strength on the finish. I did not find it all that strong. Yes. It is bold and robust. To me, it was medium-full bodied, medium strength start to finish.
