What does Maduro mean?

Simply put, in Spanish, Maduro means mature or ripe. There are many different shades of Maduro wrappers, such as Colorado Maduro, Oscuro, and Double Maduro. But, normally, a Maduro wrapper is intensely dark, oily, and has attained this aesthetic because of extensive aging.

If you want to explore all the different types of wrapper tobacco, you can read about them in our blog here.

Are Maduro cigars stronger?

There's a huge misconception that Maduro cigars will always be stronger than a natural cigar. Now, don’t get me wrong, they can be strong, but Maduros are more so known for producing a full bodied sweetness.

In addition to an overall sweetness, Maduro cigars feature bountiful notes of earth and wood. So remember, don’t always judge a book by its cover, just because Maduro cigars are some of the darkest looking cigars out there, doesn’t always translate to them being the strongest.
