For many, smoking in the winter presents a challenge. While we’d all love to have a top-class cigar lounge in our homes, the reality is that sometimes that isn’t possible. This blog is for anyone who’s ever tried (or at least thought about) braving icy-cold conditions to enjoy their favorite cigar. Here’s Cigar World’s Guide to smoking in the winter months.

Tip #1 — Find a Neighborhood Cigar Lounge

The best way to beat the cold? Stay indoors, of course! If you’re new to the cigar hobby, you should know that many cigar shops and bars allow their patrons to enjoy cigars in cozy lounges on their premises. Check with your local cigar shop/lounge/bar to learn about their lounge policy! Some lounges will allow anyone in — provided they pay a “cutting fee” or purchase a cigar at the establishment — while others have a member-only policy.

Pro tip: you can always use Cigar World’s store locator to find information on the cigar shops closest to you!

Tip #2 — Keep it Short

If you find yourself in a situation where you know you’ll be smoking in cold weather, then consider purchasing shorter and smaller versions of your favorite cigars. Many brands offer cigarillos and short cigars just for this purpose. This way, you can enjoy a great cigar and get out of the cold in under 20 minutes. Looking for a place to start? We recommend checking out Hoyo Excalibur Short Cigars — trust us, you won’t be disappointed.

Tip #3 — Bring the Right Equipment

This might go without saying, but we’ll say it anyway: always wear the appropriate gear if you go out in the cold for an extended period. This includes a heavy coat, gloves, winter pants, socks, boots, and a hat.

Also, bring proper cigar equipment — i.e., a torch lighter. Trying to light up a cigar with a match against a cold breeze is a losing battle.

Tip #4 — Smoke with Friends

Smoking alone can be a wonderful experience, but nothing beats lighting up a quality cigar with friends. And that goes double for the winter months! Smoking with friends will help you enjoy your cigar all the more, and they can also share their favorite places to smoke, accessories, and other advice with you!
