Golf is one of — if not the most — cigar-friendly activities. For decades, aficionados and casual smokers alike have come together to enjoy a few stogies while hitting the links. And though there’s no *wrong way* to enjoy a cigar at the golf course, we do want to share some tips and best practices to ensure you have the best possible smoking experience while golfing.

Here’s your guide to cigar smoking on the golf course.

Tip #1 Always call ahead

Many golf courses allow smoking, but not all golf courses have the same rules and regulations. When in doubt, it’s always a smart idea to call ahead and ask about a location’s smoking policy. That’s especially true for golf courses you’re visiting for the first time.

Tip #2 Be courteous to other golfers

Not everyone at a golf course will enjoy cigar smoking. It’s just the truth. That’s why it’s a good call to be conscientious of other, non-smoking golfers — particularly those in your group. Stay downwind of other golfers and don’t blow smoke or distract others with your cigars.

Tip #3 Respect the course

Unless you’ve really made it, golf courses are public places meant for everyone to enjoy. Don’t ash your cigar on the green, fairway, or anywhere else someone may step or line up a shot. In fact, it’s best to have a cigar holder to ensure you don’t ash in unwelcome places.

Similarly, if you’re taking a long time smoking while golfing, allow other players to play through.

Tip # 4 Go with the heavy stuff

We love light, nuanced cigars as much as the next guy. But when you’re smoking outdoors at a golf course, you’re going to experience a number of unique smells that can distract from your cigar-smoking experience. That’s why we recommend packing dark, heavy cigars that deliver a lot of flavor.

Tip #5 Share

Both golfing and cigar-smoking are primarily social activities. You can’t go wrong bringing a few extra cigars when you head to the course. You never know when someone may want to try a cigar — or when you’ll make a new friend.

      I agree my man!

Also, if smoking out West or anywhere that’s dry and windy, be extra careful and confine that stogie to your mouth and cart.
