When people talk about a “smooth smoke” they’re very likely referencing buttery tasting notes. Butter, like cream, is a common, but usually understated cigar tasting note. Cigars with butter in the flavor profile tend to complement a pleasant undertone of butter with more exotic flavors such as fruit, leather, or herbs. However, some cigars are just creamy, buttery, and smooth all around. (These are almost always mellower, Claro cigars.)
Butter is also a tasting note that can contribute to “mouthfeel,” or a sensation of butteriness that occurs when smoking.
