Very Adequate Cigar

Cigar Reviewed: Riata

Smoked at: Carolinas

This 5.5 x 51 cigar was a promotional giveaway I got from a vendor. It had a smooth, light brown wrapper and a colorful band (the pattern of which looks a little dated to me). The cold draw gave me just the taste of mild tobacco. The foot toasted up and lit easily with an acceptable draw. The first puffs delivered a little cocoa, a little spice, and a lot of creamy smoke. Later on I got a few citrus notes, but overall this smoke didn’t change much. It is a Dominican cigar, I believe with a Connecticut or Connecticut seed wrapper, so it was on the mild side with a nice and easy to palette flavor. I had to knock a couple of points off for construction. It held a long ash, but burned very unevenly. Additionally, I found myself spitting tiny bits of tobacco out of my mouth pretty much throughout the whole smoke. Still, it was not an unpleasant cigar. At the right price, I’d buy a few for those days I’m craving a classically mild smoke.
