Cigar Reviewed: Stillwell Aromatic No.1
Smoked at: Portland Oregon
I'm familiar with pipe tobacco so this wasn't a big leap for me flavor wise. I started the smoke with a coffee as it was mid day. The cigar had a definite pipe tobacco smell out of the wrapper, cold draw… wow sweet tip (this would last through the entire cigar for me.) not much to comment on other than it was a very easy clean draw. 1st third Sweet slight hazelnut to begin with a marshmallow cream becoming more and more pronounced as I really got into it. A light cedar transitioning to light leather always with the marshmallow in the background. 2nd third lips still sweet more light leather, with a very faint cherry, towards the end of the second third the leather notes became quite bitter, but gave way to a more toasted marshmallow at the beginning of the last third where the sweetness picked up again with a creamy marshmallow as in the 1st third. At this point I had left the coffee and paired a lighter end Islay with the this fine cigar. slight notes of anise developed, the sweetness still on the lips was beginning to feel numb (not in a bad way but similar to when I drink absinthe.) I smoked this to the very end and surprisingly got notes of cherry and milk chocolate at the very end. It was a very pleasant afternoon, and was happy I didn’t give up at the bitter part, really only lasted for a few puffs. I’m interested in trying other Stillwell cigars.
