Notes on classification: Considered a budget cigar due to shorter aging times, slightly less selective leaf grading, and high-volume bundled production. Despite this, it retains qualities found in premium cigars such as long-filler tobacco, hand-rolled construction, and a well-applied wrapper.
Pre-Light
Beautifully wrapped Connecticut, smooth with a light even color. Minimal veins and a clean seam. Sweet tobacco aroma off the wrapper and foot. Cold draw brought a nice sweet tobacco flavor with a touch of cedar.
First Third
Mild and creamy with a clear nuttiness and a light bread note. A touch of natural sweetness in the background, no pepper detected. Draw is perfect with a sharp burn line. Gray ash is a little flaky but holds firm.
Second Third
Still mild and creamy with the same nuttiness and bread. A faint vanilla note appears, likely from the Nicaraguan Connecticut wrapper influence. Toward the end of this third, a distinct tree nut flavor shows up, either as a natural transition or because the palate has warmed up to it. Burn line remains sharp with minimal flaking.
Final Third
The nuttiness takes on a deeper tone while staying mild overall. A faint woody dryness creeps in, and a touch of white pepper shows up late, adding a little lift to the profile. There is also that honest “end of the cigar” tang that might owe more to tar and spit than the blend itself. Not complex, but steady and pleasant from start to finish.
Overall Impression
About an hour and five minutes to the nub. For $3.99, this is a very solid morning cigar. It does not try to be more than it is, but what it is happens to be smooth, flavorful enough to keep interest, and constructed well. The budget label comes from production and aging factors, not from poor quality. It has the qualities of a fine premium in a simpler, easier package. I did not buy the bundle. The unnamed shop allowed me to hand-pick cigars from the bundle, which means mine are probably not consistent with what you might get if you order a sealed bundle. I got to be picky.
This one was smoked on my front porch at 79 degrees and sunny. The birds stayed active despite the 2.8 pound beast of a dog by my side. Old glory hung from the porch, gently swaying in the light breeze. Three stars. Not a lot of complexity, but I often look for that in an early morning smoke. For the price, I would not hesitate to keep a few of these around for easygoing mornings.
