Not for me

Cigar Reviewed: Oliva Connecticut Reserve Robusto
Smoked at: San Antonio, TX
I had high expectations for the Oliva Connecticut Reserve Robusto because I’ve always heard Oliva makes great cigars, and the Connecticut wrapper usually means a smooth, creamy smoke. But honestly, this one just didn’t do it for me.
Right from the first few puffs, the cigar came off more bitter than smooth. I was expecting something mellow and creamy, maybe with hints of nuts or wood, but instead it just had this sharp bitterness that stuck around. I kept waiting for it to settle or change as it burned, but it pretty much stayed the same all the way through, slightly dry, a little harsh, and not very pleasant on the palate.
The draw and construction were actually good; it burned evenly and had a nice ash but the flavor just didn’t deliver. It reminded me of when a Connecticut shade cigar loses that balance between smooth and flavorful, and you’re left with something flat but bitter at the same time.
By the halfway point, I honestly found myself losing interest. It didn’t evolve or open up like some cigars do; it just stayed in that bitter.
Overall, I’d say the Oliva Connecticut Reserve Robusto looks good and performs fine construction-wise, but flavor-wise it just wasn’t for me. Maybe someone who really likes very mild cigars with a dry finish might enjoy it more, but I’ll probably stick to something with a little more body and sweetness next time.
