When I first picked up the Macanudo Ecuadorian Shade, I expected a straightforward morning cigar. What I got was something a little more interesting.
The first thing I noticed was how clean the cigar looked. The box-pressed shape felt comfortable in the hand, and the wrapper had that smooth, golden appearance that immediately suggests an easygoing smoke. The draw was effortless from the start, producing plenty of smoke without needing much attention.
The opening third was all about creaminess. There was a pleasant sweetness that reminded me of honey stirred into coffee. I also picked up some toasted almonds and a bit of vanilla. Nothing was overpowering, but everything felt balanced and well-integrated.
As the cigar moved into the middle section, the flavor became a little richer. The nuttiness became more pronounced, and I started noticing some cedar and light baking spices. It never crossed into strong territory, which I appreciated. Instead, it stayed smooth and relaxed while still offering enough transitions to keep me engaged.
What impressed me most was how consistent the experience remained. Some mellow cigars tend to become bland halfway through, but the Ecuadorian Shade maintained its character from beginning to end. The smoke stayed cool, the burn remained even, and I never had to fight with it.
The final third introduced a touch more earth and spice, but it never lost the creamy core that defined the cigar from the beginning. Even near the nub, there was no harshness or bitterness.
Overall, this is the kind of cigar I would gladly reach for on a weekend morning with a cup of coffee or during a relaxed afternoon when I want flavor without intensity. It isn't trying to be a powerhouse, and that's exactly what makes it enjoyable. The Macanudo Ecuadorian Shade delivers a smooth, flavorful, and easygoing experience that feels approachable for newer smokers while still offering enough nuance for seasoned enthusiasts.
Would I buy it again? Absolutely. It's the type of cigar that earns a permanent spot in the humidor because there are plenty of occasions when a smooth, creamy, dependable smoke is exactly what you want
