Smoked: Joya de Nicaragua Antano Dark Corojo
Smoked at: Sharonville, Ohio
Joya de Nicaragua Antano Dark Corojo is a 38 by 4.5 made of Nicaraguan filler and binder aged 3 years amd covered in an oily, smooth dark corojo wrapper. The primary band is gold on black with the familiar Joya de Nicaragua logo. The secondary band proclaims it a “dark corojo” in gold on a black background.
Flavors: cedar, pepper, dark amd semi-sweet chocolate, nutmeg. bread. eartn and leather. It packs a punch, clearly full bodied and full strength. There are plenty of flavors in this cigar, but they really never blossomed into a balanced complex profile due to the construction.
This stick was packed so tight it took two pokes with the Perfect Draw and several toothpick pokes later to draw anj reaspmable amouny of smoke. Ir also required several touchups to fix the smoke output and work around a final third flaw in the wrapper. The burn was fairly even until the wrapper issue at the burn line.
I usually enjoy Joya de Nicaragua offerings. This was not one of the brand’s better efforts or maybe I just got a poorly rolled cigar in the lot. I will smoke one again because the flavors I did experience lead me to believe that a better constructed version or perhaps a different vitola could yield a very good cigar.
The John Shaw is a rye procured from upstate New York. It paired well with the full-bodied JdN Dark Corojo.
