I have always been a big fan of The Tabernacle No 142 Broadleaf, especially in the doble corona. The richness of the tobacco, the oiliness, and of course the flavor. Plus it has a San Andres binder, which I do enjoy San Andres. I have waited for quite some time to try this cigar because I just always grabbed the broadleaf when I wanted a Tabernacle. While I don’t regret the broadleafs I have smoked, I will now have a difficult time deciding which one I want.
The Havana Seed CT still has the rich flavor profile and produces a lot of smoke. At times you get cigars that one may not be sold on in the first third, but as they get into the second and third portions of it the cigar changes and they begin to really enjoy it, this is not that cigar. This cigar has delicious flavor right from the beginning. The first third packed a deep rich and powerful flavor with a strong earthiness to it. It gives you a mild sweetness that is very subtle to start. As you progress into the second third, the cigar mellows slightly but still maintains that earthiness flavor with some cedar and chocolate notes. With the cigar mellowing, it also allows more of the sweetness to come out but it is no way overpowering. The last third, while not quite as good as the second in my opinion, continues with the same flavor notes with the sweetness kind of settling back into the background. The cigar puts off a great amount of smoke and a nice light grey ash. It burned almost flawlessly and required no touch ups.
This cigar is a good solid stick and pairs great with a nice cup of espresso. The subtle sweetness offsets the little bitterness of the espresso and the earthiness enhances its flavor. I would highly recommend this cigar, especially if you enjoy The Tabernacle broadleaf. The only problem I have with the cigar is I now have to try to decide if I want the Havana Seed CT or the Broadleaf. I guess I will have to make sure I have a coin on me the make the decision when I am wanting a Tabernacle cigar.
