Disappointed

Cigar Reviewed: Camacho Broadleaf

Smoked at: Front Porch Lounge

Camacho has never been a cigar that I have reached for often. I have had a few in the past but was just never blown away by them. The shop I go to recently expanded their selection of them so I decided I would give them another chance. I picked up a broadleaf since I have enjoyed the tabernacle broadleaf, and a triple maduro as it is one of the most popular and I do like a good maduro cigar. To say I was disappointed in these cigars is understatement.

I started off with the triple maduro there at the lounge. The flavor was not at all what I was expecting and just seemed to leave a strange aftertaste. The second third of the cigar was the best out of all three. The major disappointment in the cigar came with the construction. For the last half of the cigar the wrapper unraveled and burned unevenly. It got to the point where the frustration and battle just got the best of me and I put it down. If the flavor profile would have been better I might have kept with the battle.

Every manufacture can have that cigar that is a bad wrapper or role. So today I decided on the broadleaf for my morning stick with my coffee. I enjoyed the flavor of this cigar a lot more than the triple maduro. They had nice flavors of coffee and cocoa in the first third before moving to more of an espresso in the second. I enjoyed the flavor of this cigar through all three thirds. Now the negative part. Not even a third of the way through the cigar and the wrapper began unraveling. I fought this for the entire remaining length of the cigar. The burn constantly needed touched up to try to get the burn to even out and prevent more problems. The cigar paired well with the coffee and I enjoyed the flavor, which is why I stayed with the struggle of this one to finish it out.

I know I put few tasting notes on these cigars, but the part I wanted to highly was the construction. It is disappointing that a cigar with ties to Davidoff is having trouble with the construction of their cigars. I’m sure at some point in time I will find myself giving Camacho another chance, but I don’t look for it to be in the near future.
