Smoked: Caldwell Savages

Smoked at: West Chester, Ohio

Caldwell Savages has a somewhat oily habano wrapper with a few veins…and, as Caldwell’s usually do, very interesting artwork on the cigar band. Is this “The King’s” long-lost, village idiot stepbrother?

Flavor profile: Pepper, wood – cedar, maybe oak – hard to distinguish, a hint of dried fruit, nuttiness & grain and a touch of chocolate – all on the subtle side, creaminess and that well-aged Caldwell tobacco. The pepper fades a bit on the second third and more earthiness comes forward. The retrohale was heavier on the pepper. The cigar did start to lose flavor during the final third and became dry – mild parched palate began.

Good draw, mostly even burn line until the final third when a few touchups were required. The cigar held a tight grey ash to almost 2 inches, then became a little flaky.

Caldwell Savages is a decent cigar. It reminds me of a milder version of the Long Live The King. I believe it was one of Caldwell’s releases just after the Long Live. Again, decent stick, but I’ll take the Long Live The King and The King Is Dead over this stick.
