A solid smoke.

Cigar Reviewed: La Gloria Cubana Medio Tiempo

Smoked at: Syracuse, New York

To celebrate the first nice-enough-day to sit on the deck, I tried (for the first time) a La Gloria Cubana Medio Tiempo. The first third was a bit heavy on the bass notes of pepper, earth, and spice. To it's credit, the stick had a razor sharp burn line and a nice easy draw. The finish was long and had very subtle notes of sweetness. The middle third was when this really started to shine. It had the complex rich flavor you'd expect from a medium-to-full bodied cigar. The spice and pepper made way for notes of leather and wood...and a finish with hints of cocoa and vanilla. The nub smoked a bit hot, and had a longer, stronger finish with bits of leather and earth. Full disclosure: the first time I try a cigar, I normally only drink water or seltzer. But, I imagine this stick would pair nicely with a wheated Bourbon or even a glass of red wine. I likely wouldn't buy a box of these. But, I'll probably grab a few to keep on hand.
