Cigar Reviewed: M By Macanudo Espresso with Cream
Smoked at: Our patio in Kansas
My wife and I like to share a cigar from time-to-time. We were excited to try the M By Macanudo, flavored with espresso and cream. We don't normally smoke flavored cigars so this was something new for us. The "M" has a nice two-tone/barber pole look. The construction seemed solid with no major defects. We immediately got a whiff of chocolate when we unwrapped the stick. The cap was very sweet before lighting and the draw a little tight. We enjoyed the coffee and chocolate aroma when first lit. Our first taste was a smooth, creamy and over-sweetened coffee flavor with only a little white pepper hint.
The 1st third was mild, little pepper that complimented the sweet espresso with cream flavor.
The draw was a little tight so I snipped another dime off the end. We also noticed the burn was a little uneven and we tried - unsuccessfully to even it up. This was similar to another Macanudo we had.
The 2nd third had a hint of earth and a little bit of convenience store smoke. The pepper was a little more pronounced. We didn't enjoy this 3rd as much as the 1st and 3rd.
The stick smoothed out in the final 3rd.
My wife had a bottle of Samuel Adams Organic Chocolate Stout and we thought it paired well with this selection. I had a Founder's Breakfast Porter that didn't go so well. In fact, it accentuated the pepper and even made it a little bitter.
Overall about a 3 out of 5. Probably ok for a toolbox or golf bag stick -- but not an 'enjoy around the fire' smoke.
You might like it more if you like flavored cigars but we aren't big fans.
