Smoked: Diamond Crown Black Diamond

I was inspired by a recent post from our highly respected Brother of the Leaf, @shortstackz , to smoke one of the two remaining J. C. Newman cigars that my wife had purchased as a birthday gift to me back in December. My choice was the Diamond Crown Black Diamond Emerald, a 6 x 52 Dominican puro made at Tabacalera A. Fuente. Details can be found here:

This cigar, with its gorgeous toothy wrapper, was outstanding. It had a nearly perfect burn line (no corrections needed), abundant “chewy” smoke production, a superb draw, and was deeply flavorful with some interesting transitions. Flavor notes included woodiness, sweetness, nuttiness, spice, cayenne pepper (not too intense), a wee bit of fruit, bread, and a fleeting hint of chocolate in the 2nd third. I rate its strength at medium, to a bit more medium/full at the end. Five out of five across the board.

At $22.00/stick, the Black Diamond Emerald wouldn’t be affordable for me to have it in my regular rotation. However, for a special occasion, it would be a wonderful cigar with which to savor the moment.

Cheers!
