The Perfect Pair: Adam Guard and Chris Chapanar and the Perfect Pairing Club

As a cigar enthusiast, I love any platform where I can discuss the current topics, blends, launches, etc. about our beloved stogies. Cigar World wanted to highlight a new social media channel, the Perfect Pairing Club, with Adam Guard from Dreamer Cigars and Chris Chapanar of Whiskey Noobs, where each week, they pair a different cigar with 3 different whiskeys, tequilas, or other beverages. This is a perfect pairing of products and hosts.

Jean- Good morning, gentlemen! I don’t normally get to interview two people at once, so this is going to be fun.

Adam- Haha, yeah, glad to do it!

Chris- Definitely should be fun, thanks for having us!

Jean- Adam, I have known you for a while now, and we have been able to work on a few things together already, so I am going to start off with asking you about Dreamer Cigars, how you got started with it, what is it and what we can expect to see from Dreamer Cigars in the future?

Adam- Well, it all started from one random TikTok when I decided to review a cigar. The first post hit 10,000 views, and I just really ran with it from there. Within 3 months, we had 50,000 followers, and that is when I decided to really go all in. Dreamer Cigars was born on the back of cigar beginner education. We still focus heavily on that today through our Cigar of the Week program and, of course, through the Perfect Pairing Club. We have also done some custom cigar projects like the one we did for Dennis Rodman, and now we are scaling up our new line, Onward Dreams, with my partner, DJ Walton. But with all that said, the focus remains the same, and now through our partnership with Chris, we get to educate on pairings as well, which, in my opinion, has always been a sort of blind spot in the cigar world. 

Jean- You know I love all the content that you produce! Chris, we just did an interview with you about your new blind tasting device that you created with your partner, Sol, and got into your start in the world of whiskey, so today let’s discuss how you got into the world of cigars.

Chris- Cigars were actually my first love, which got me into whiskey. Growing up, my dad smoked cigars, and I loved the smell of them. Even in my teens, I knew I wanted to try them out once I hit the legal age. It took a lot more to learn how to taste them than I thought it would, but once I acquired the taste, I was hooked. Later on, whiskey sort of overshadowed cigars, mainly because it’s really cold in Ohio for most of the year and you can easily drink whiskey indoors, but thanks to Adam I’ve been able to really get back into them.

Jean- And how did the two of you connect?

Adam- I had originally thought the Perfect Pairing channels may have a new “cohost” every week, and I reached out to several of the top whiskey influencers to have them on a podcast, which I was using to test-run the Perfect Pairing idea. Chris joined an early episode, and we really just hit it off from there. Once I knew the concept was solid and people wanted to learn more about pairings, I asked him to come on as the official partner in the Perfect Pairing Channel and the cigar subscription club behind it.

Chris- Yeah, like Adam mentioned, we really hit it off. At some point, I had him on my podcast as well, and we started to realize that our channels were really two sides of the same coin, his with cigars and mine with whiskey. So, for a while, we knew we wanted to work together, so when he came up with Perfect Pairing, I jumped on the opportunity.

Adam- Oh man, that is tough haha, but I think I am going to have to be biased and say the Onward Dreams Middleweight Champ with Rare Stash whiskey just because it was so interesting trying the pairing with a cigar that you blended yourself!

Chris- Mine must be the JC Newman Perla Del Mar Corojo with Woodford Reserve. Together they make a totally new flavor that I'd never experience before, and haven't had since. Super unique pairing.
