CAO Returns To The Rainforest With Amazon Basin Re-Release

Cory Beardsley, Brand Manager for CAO, said, “At this point, Amazon Basin has become part of CAO’s DNA. From the way the tobacco is grown and fermented to the journey it takes to reach our factory, there’s nothing else like it. Every time we bring it back, the response reminds us why this cigar still matters, and we’re excited to get it back into the hands of fans.”

The return of Amazon Basin also marks the beginning of a larger celebration of the blend throughout the year. While this classic frontmark leads the way, fans can expect additional Amazon Basin expressions to surface over the course of 2026, each offering a new way to experience one of CAO’s most iconic releases.

CAO Amazon Basin centers on a rare tobacco called “Bragança,” which is organically grown on unspoiled tropical land in the Amazon Rainforest. Seedlings are transplanted directly into the soil a full yard apart, resulting in less than half the yield of other tobacco plants.

The leaves are rolled by hand into tubes called “carottes,” where they undergo six months of natural fermentation. They are then transported out of the rainforest by canoe, taken to the mainland and ultimately brought to the CAO factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

There, CAO’s blenders allow the aromatic Bragança leaf to take center stage, surrounded by tobacco curated from four different countries. With a hearty Ecuadoran Sumatra wrapper from the highest primings, a Nicaraguan binder, and Dominican and Colombian tobacco in the filler to complement the Brazilian Bragança, the CAO Amazon Basin experience is as exotic as the tropical rainforest from which it originated.
