Honduras is one of the most important countries in the cigar industry. Honduran cigars are well-regarded and popular in the US market, and dozens of high-profile brands have factories in Honduras.
There are three main growing regions in Honduras. The first of which is the rich and fertile soil of the province of El Paraiso (translating into "Paradise"). In this area, you'll find the Jamastran Valley and Danlíi, which are known for producing high-quality wrappers.
Hours away is the Talanga Valley, a windy and mountainous area where tents are erected around the sun-grown tobacco, called the "encallado" method, to protect them from the wind.
Lastly, the Copan area, known for its Mayan ruins. Copan is a major producing region, and has been since the Spanish established the first tobacco post in 1765.
Honduran tobacco runs the gamut from light and creamy to rich and dark. What’s more, the fabled Corojo strain of tobacco is grown only in the Eiroa family farm in Honduras. Brands such as Punch, Camacho, Hoyo de Monterrey, Aladino, Alec Bradley, and many more produce some of the best Honduran cigars available today.
