Tatuaje Cabaiguan Imperiales

Smoked: Tatuaje Cabaiguan Imperiales

Smoked at: West Chester, Ohio

Tatuaje Cabaiguan Imperiales is a line extension from Pete Johnson on a venture into milder blends. The cigar is named after a city in Cuba. The Imperiales is a 7 x 47 Churchill. The Cabaiguan uses a Nicaraguan binder and filler and is enveloped in a smooth golden tan Ecuadoran Connecticut Shade wrapper with some oiliness – unusual for a Connecticut Shade.

Also unusual for a Connecticut, it’s flat-out medium bodied from the first puff. Flavors begin with oak, pepper spice, well-aged tobacco, cashews, earth, leather, floral, herbal and a dash of chocolate and cedar mixed in by the second third. There’s nuance to this blend, including espresso, toast and a creamy almost custard note in the background. It brings out richness to what I expected to be a rather mild cigar in both body and flavor. There’s a little bite to this stick. You can really taste the aged tobacco pushing through the other flavors.

The construction is awesome – good open draw, strong smoke output, dead on straight burn line, and white grey ash that stacked up like a roll of nickels hanging on tight.

Tatuaje Cabaiguan is both rich and mellow simultaneously. It’s somewhat reminiscent of the San Cristobal Elegancia. Well, there is the Garcia connection. I really like this cigar. Nice work, Pete!
