Tatuaje Avion 13 Reserva Double Perfecto

Smoked: Tatuaje Avion 13 Reserva Double Perfecto & Burwood Canadian Single Hive Honey Whiskey

Smoked at: Fairfield, Ohio

Tatuaje Avion 13 Reserva is made in Nicaragua using Nicaraguan filler and binder and covered in a slightly toothy oily Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. This box pressed perfecto is 6 7/8 x 52 – enough square footage to impact my humidor’s property tax. The primary band is red, gold and black with a secondary black and gold stating “Reserva.”

This stick is loaded with flavors - cedar, creaminess, a rich earthiness, leather, dark roast coffee, bittersweet chocolate, caramel, and a hint of floral and licorice. Raisins join the background flavors during the second third. The chocolate transforms to cocoa during the second third, although the bittersweet notes reappear from time to time. There is only a fleeting taste of spice initially that returns minimally by the midway point of the smoke. Everything is balanced by weights and measures standards and complex. I would expect nothing less from a Tatuaje, but Pete outdid himself on this stick. Well done! The Avion 13 is medium-full bodied and full strength,

Perfect open draw, copious volume of smoke, a dead even sharp burn line, and grey ash that held tight to over an inch until tapping off on command.

As a sign in the stands at Shea Stadium proclaimed when the 1969 Mets won the World Series, “There Are No Words” – other than Tatuaje Avion 13 is an excellent stick.

BTW: The pairing with interesting too. Burwood Canadian Single Hive Honey whiskey – like Kentucky Bourbon only lighter and sweeter with, of course, notes of honey.
