Cigar Reviewed: AJ Fernandez Ramon Allones
Smoked at: New Jersey
Tonight I had the Ramon Allones by AJ Fernandez. I was a little apprehensive in trying it having smoked the Cuban original. I’m sorry but no non Cuban replica measures up to any of the originals. However, AJ didn’t try to copy the Cuban brand. He instead came up with a totally different blend and he hit a Grand Slam in my opinion.
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Medio-Tiempo Habano Oscuro
Binder: Nicaraguan Corojo ‘99
Filler: Nicaraguan Corojo ’99, Jalapa, Criollo ’98, Condega, Hybrid Estelí, Pueblo Nuevo
Size: 6 x 52 Toro
Strength: Medium-Full
The cigar started with an intense pepper blast along with creamy chocolate and espresso notes. This isn’t a cigar for Connecticut lovers. It’s a full power in no time. However, the flavors are unbelievable. The Oscuro wrapper is known for both its strength and sweet flavors and it delivers in this cigar.
As the cigar progresses the pepper subsides a bit and the flavors really come through.
The final third in my opinion really opens up to all the flavors; chocolate, espresso, cinnamon, and caramel. It’s a real powerhouse though. Not for the faint of heart. If you like intense flavors and strength this will not disappoint. I’ll be definitely adding this to my humidor.
Great Cigar.
