Smoked: My Father Blue Petite Robusto
Smoked at: Fairfield, Ohio
My Father Blue Petite Robusto features filler of Honduran Corojo and Criollo, a Honduran binder and a light sandpaper toothy Connecticut Broadleaf Rosado wrapper with very few visible veins. The blue and gold primary band with the classic My Father logo is impressive. The secondary band has a light blue background and proclaims it "Blue.” There is also a plain blue footer. The 3 bands cover most of the wrapper.
Cedar, slightly mineral earthiness, mild kind of sweet pepper, chocolate, walnuts & peanuts, hints of caramel creaminess and dark roast coffee Noticed a puff or two of leather, vegetal and floral notes during the second third. The oak turns charred and the pepper flares up during the final third. I found it finished somewhat harsh and bitter. It’s a medium-full bodied and strength stick.
Reasonably open draw, solid smoke output, but an uneven burn line that required several touchups and the ash was flaky.
There’s plenty of flavor in this stick, but not precisely balanced or complex. I wasn’t knocked out by the My Father Blue, but I found it an interesting smoke. Let’s say it is a good cigar, but not on par with the hype on release. Maybe I should try the toro to see if it can up its game to match the initial buzz.
Now the blended scotch paired with it I give high praise. My buddy Jay found a bottle of Johnny Walker Swing at a store in Indiana. I had never heard of this scotch nor seen it in a store or even online. I’m not a big fan of blended scotch being a single malt snob, but this is an excellent scotch. If you can find it, try it….and let me know where you found it. BTW: When you rest the bottle on a table, it rocks – Swing.
