Cigar Reviewed: Montecristo Platinum
Smoked at: Long Beach, MS
Let’s be honest—this cigar looks like it should come with a cufflink and a brandy snifter. But here I am, smoking it in work boots and a worn-out cap, and somehow it still works.
The wrapper’s a little rugged—veiny, textured, not the smoothest looking leaf you’ll see—but it’s still well-constructed, just like you’d expect from Montecristo. There’s a kind of charm to that. Like a tuxedo with calloused hands underneath.
The Platinum Series opens up with a smooth draw and just the right amount of resistance. You get cedar, earth, and a touch of spice, but it’s all clean, nothing overpowering. It’s not trying to blow your doors off—it’s just well-behaved and balanced, like it knows it’s got class and doesn’t have to prove it.
Midway through, you’ll pick up a little cocoa, some soft leather, and a warmth that stays steady without turning bitter. Construction? Near flawless. Razor burn line, solid ash, and zero relights. It’s the kind of cigar that makes you check your posture without realizing it.
Four stars. This one smokes like it’s been to finishing school but still knows how to swing a hammer. It’s not flashy, not wild—just a well-made cigar with a clean profile that doesn’t try too hard. And honestly, that’s part of what makes it worth smoking.
