Micallef Torcedores

Smoked: Micallef Torcedores

Smoked at: West Chester, Ohio

Micallef Torcedores Torpedo is box-pressed and features Dominican, Nicaraguan & Peruvian filler, a Honduran binder and covered with a Mexican San Andres wrapper with barely noticeable veins and seams. The primary and secondary bands are blue and orange with light gold lettering.

Cedar, earth, leather, pepper, baking spices, cream, vanilla, and vague hints of orchard and dried fruit. The flavor profile is very earth & leather-driven. The other flavors, including the wood, play secondary roles in the mix. During the second third, I picked up a puff or two of coffee and almonds - faint and fleeting. It’s a medium-mild bodied and medium strength cigar.

The draw was a little tight but opened up with a carefully applied toothpick poke. There was still just a bit too much resistance for my liking. The burn line was fine. The ash held tight. Volumes of smoke followed every puff.

For a cigar marketed as ‘budget friendly,” Micallef Torcedores packs a considerable amount of flavor. For my personal taste I would have welcomed more cedar, spice and sweetness in the forefront along with the earth and leather. But I did enjoy the smoke.
