Micallef Black Toro is made with Nicaraguan filler, an Ecuador Habano binder and covered in a bit lumpy, slightly oily, mottled Mexican San Andres wrapper with visible seams and small veins. The band features the Micallef shield logo in black and gold lettering “Micallef” above the shield and “Cigars” below. .
Oak, almonds, dry earth mineral, bittersweet chocolate, pepper and kitchen cabinet spice that both accelerate during the second third . Beyond the chocolate notes there is very little sweetness in this flavor profile until the final third. Then you add licorice and a few puffs of coffee and citrus The oak pairs with hints of cedar by the second third as well. It’s medium-full bodied, but rather medium=minus in strength.
Decent draw, moderate smoke production, flaky white ash that held to a half inch before falling or tapping off, and a reasonably even burn line.
Although the strength is medium at best, Micallef Black is on the medium-full side in body and flavor. It’s not quite the Brutus of this cigar line, but in relative terms more so than other Micallefs I have smoked. It’s a good everyday stick and a good value for the price point.
