Smoked: Macanudo Cru Royale
Smoked at: Fairfield, Ohio
Macanudo Cru Royale is made with Dominican, Nicaraguan & Brazilian Mata Fina, a Dominican binder, and covered in a slightly rough oily Ecuador Habano wrapper. The band is an unusual color combo for Macanudo – silver and muted blue.
Cedar, spice, earthy leather, cocoa, coffee, and mixed nuts – like the full spectrum from almonds to walnuts and hazelnuts to peanuts. Like grabbing a handful from a can of mixed nuts. There are some hints of vanilla, coconut (or coconut milk) and dried fruit. It’s medium bodied and strength start to finish.
The draw was tight and needed to be opened – and reopened with the Perfect Draw, smoke output was solid, uneven burn line that required a couple of touchups, and firm grey ash that held to almost an inch before tapping off.
I didn’t love this cigar, but as with most Macanudos I’ve tried, I like it. Give it a 4.
