La Aroma de Cuba Pasion Robusto features a Nicaraguan binder and filler and a slightly oily Nicaraguan Shade Grown wrapper with a fair number of veins and seams. The primary band is the La Aroma de Cuba logo. The secondary states “Pasion.”
After lighting, the first draws are very earthy and leathery followed by pepper, cedar, chocolate and cream. The earthiness gets mossy. After about 10 minutes, there were no new flavors. Before the second third, I’m hearing The Dramatics singing “Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get” in my head. Whatcha taste is Whatcha get. Nothing new to report. Now I’m hearing Peggy Lee’s “Is That All There Is” playing in my head. Most of what I’m tasting is wet earth.
This is a fast-burning cigar. The draw was a bit loose. The burn line was off kilter for most of the first third but did self-correct. The smoke output was generous. The ash was flaky at first but that also changed.
La Aroma de Cuba Pasion is the height of mediocrity. I’m not even going to address the price point. Danger, Will Robinson! I’ll give it this – the light grey ash grew to well over an inch and held firm, the smoke output was exemplary, and the burn line did even out. Now if it only had some flavor to it. At the halfway mark, I had to have the cigar taken out back and mercifully put down. I left it burn out in the ash tray if Roger Miller is interested – short but not too big around. Give me the Mi Amor any day.
