El Gueguense Corojo Blue Label

Smoked: El Gueguense Corojo Blue Label

Smoked at: Wetherington, Ohio

El Gueguense robusto is made with Nicaraguan Corojo & Criollo filler, a Nicaraguan Corojo 99 binder and Corojo 99 wrapper. It's a medium-full bodied, medium strength cigar. The Initially flavors include pepper, spice, cedar peanuts & almonds, and mild chocolate sweetness, but it starts out rather harsh. It does settle into a more balanced taste of earth, wood, almonds and dried fruit (raisins?) with pepper more prevalent. Earthy leather, a hint of citrus and more prominent spice emerge on the final third.

Now the construction: The burn line was uneven throughout requiring numerous touch ups. The ash fell off several times. It burned rather slowly for a robusto and there was a soft spot that interfered with the burn. So the construction gets a 2 – rather disappointing given the hype on this cigar.

The flavor profile was fine, except for what I can only describe as harshness. It left me parched by the last third. This cigar was somewhat disappointing given the hype. It just didn’t do it for me. I was advised to try to “The Wise Man” maduro version. And I have had a completely different experience with the maduro – both the original and reblended.
