Crux Guild Corona

Smoked: Crux Guild Corona

Smoked at: West Chester, Ohio

Crux Guild Corona is a 5.5 x 42 using Nicaraguan filler and binder with a smooth slightly oil medium brown Ecuadoran Habano wrapper with barely visible seams and tiny veins.

The orange double band is connected by a gold seal. Be very careful removing the bands. You’re not going to do it a flip of the wrist. You’ll have to carefully lift the seal, then pick at the edge of the band so not to damage the wrapper. I was able to do that but then it’s not my first experience with Crux.

Cedar, spice, pepper, earth, leather, creamy chocolate – almost like custard. Raisins make the lineup during the second third along with coffee and oak. The latter gain dominance over the other flavors by the final third. There’s also a salty butter note and sweetness like pancake syrup at times. The retrohale is uber peppery. Singed my nostrils. By the second third, the retrohale calmed down featuring more wood and coffee with the pepper. The cigar is full bodied and medium-full strength.

Nice open draw, smoke is billowing out, white ash held firm and steady, and the burn line was plumb line dead even. I am impressed with the construction on this corona.

Crux can be hard to find but definitely worth the effort. The Crux Guild gets my stamp of approval. Try the Epicure Maduro too.
