Crux Bull & Bear Double Corona

Smoked: Crux Bull & Bear Double Corona

Smoked at: West Chester, Ohio

Crux Bull & Bear Double Corona is a 7 x 54 Nicaraguan puro. The wrapper is auburn brown Habano Maduro with some tooth and a few veins. The cigar band is white, black, silver and blue displaying the Crux logo with “Bull & Bear” at the bottom.

Oak, earth, chalk, leather, coffee and pepper with back notes of walnuts, chocolate, honey and spices. Initially I’m tasting sweet spice in the cinnamon, nutmeg arena but as the cigar progresses the spices have some heat to them. The flavor is heavy on the oak, leather and earthiness throughout the smoke with fruit and vegetal notes emerging during the second third. Most of the smoke is medium-bodied and strength with both intensifying during the final third. It leans slightly bitter and sour at the finish. The balance is off despite the array of flavors.

The cigar had a nice open draw. The smoke output was reasonable. The light grey ash was flaky falling off several times. The burn line was uneven with notches forming. My torch was working overtime on touchups.

Crux Bull & Bear Double Corona is a decent cigar. Given the name I should like it, right? It just didn’t impress me as anything special. So far, the Crux that has impressed me is the Epicure Maduro.
