Cohiba Puro Dominicana

Smoked: Cohiba Puro Dominicana

Smoked at: West Chester, Ohio

Cohiba Puro Dominicana is naturally a Dominican puro sporting a firm medium brown wrapper with slightly raised dark veins. The tobacco was aged in charcoal wooden barrels so I’m expecting deep wood notes in the flavor and retrohale.

Charred wood, leather, spice, cream, and toast/bread. The stick does lean bitter at times The flavor, although lacking transition, is consistent and has some complexity. It’s medium to medium-full bodied and strength. The retrohale is wood, leather and pepper.

Excellent open draw, whitish grey ash that held well, yet tapping off cleanly on command, solid smoke production, and an uneven burn line that required several touchups.

Many cigar friends consider Cohiba an overrated cigar. My assessment is the Dominican Cohibas are generally overpriced. Cohiba Puro Dominicana is a good cigar – if you can find them at around 10 dollars a stick. Sometimes you can using Thompson’s 5 pack fever and Cigar Page deals. Far more often they run 20 dollars or more in shops and online.
