Caldwell Lost & Found The Swinger is another Dominican lost blend discovered during the search and rescue missions of Robert Caldwell. The cigar has an Ecuadoran Connecticut wrapper and a pigtail, which always makes me nervous. One false move in removing it and you can tear the wrapper and mess up the cap. But I did well.
From the name, one can infer this is not an Ozzie & Harriet cigar and may be rated PG-13. The name may have been inspired after Mr. Caldwell watched an episode of The Real Housewives of the Dominican Republic . So…If this lives up to THAT hype, I can’t wait to try the Lost & Found Racks on Racks and Backdoor Bambi. I have already tried the One Night Stand so I suppose I’m ready to sample some of the other “walk on the wild side” versions of the Lost & Found series. The “swinger” actually refers to a playground swing – prominent on the cigar band. Didn’t Polaroid make a camera called The Swinger? Maybe that’s the inspiration.
It’s a medium to medium-mild bodied cigar with flavors of spice, cream, wood, sweet notes and mineral, vegetal notes as is usual for the aged tobacco in many of the Lost & Founds.
This stick gives out a very generous volume of smoke like the Eastern Standard. There was one soft spot that didn’t seem to affect the draw or the burn line. Just as I noticed a long, tight ash during the first third, the ash fell off… but it was back and held on tight the remainder of the smoke. The draw was a bit loose. I was surprised that it was a very quick smoke even though it was a Gordo. About an hour and a few minutes.
I often want to rate these type of Lost & Founds 3 out of 5 for flavor but I find them interesting with flavors you rarely taste in a cigar and I finish them. Although The Swinger was a bit one dimensional in flavor and had construction issues, it also had a certain je ne sais quoi, as do most Caldwells. By Cigar World scoring rules, it’s between a 3 and a 4.
